Our Vision &. Mission

A Living Document For Now & In to The Future

 

We Believe That Jesus Christ is Lord of All

·         Bible Verse: Matthew 22:37-39

·         Goal:

o        To make ourselves and others truly aware that Jesus Christ is the reason for our being and our worship.

·         Objective:

o        Remember who we are here to serve and to put Jesus above all else.

·         Action Steps:

o        Preface all meetings and events with prayer and by asking the question, "Who are we serving, and whose needs are being met?"

o        Encourage regular worship and Bible study.

o        Display a Belief Banner inside the church.

 

We Believe That Everyone Is Welcome

·         Bible Verse: Romans 15:7

·         Goal:

o        To communicate that all are invited to worship and participate in our mission.

·         Objective:

o        Greet everyone in a warm and friendly way so that they will become a part of our faith community and mission.

·         Action Steps:

o        Train members to recognize and identify "first-time' visitors.

o        Create an Advocate Shepherd embrace and familiarize new members with the life of the community.

o        Advertise church activities and announcements in area newspapers.

o        Provide transportation for others to attend St. John's worship and other activities.

o        Display a "Belief Banner" inside the church.

o        Display a Roadside Banner outside.

 

 

We Believe That Love Changes People

·         Bible Verse: 1 Cor 13:4-7

·         Goal:

o        To create a loving environment by extending Love, being loved, and giving love.

·         Objective:

o        Be willing to give witness to the Love that is changing us.

o        Recognize and believe that Love can and will change others.

o        Be willing to take a risk to help and Love others.

 

·         Action Steps:

o        Support the Soup Kitchen and local Food Banks.

o        Support the Angel Tree(s).

o        Support the Mission Endowment Fund.

o        Support Local Benevolence.

o        Display a Belief Banner inside the church.

 

We Believe That Everyone Has Something to Offer

·         Bible Verse: 1 Cor 12:12-13a

·         Goal:

o        To recognize the talents of all God's people to and to serve the mission of Jesus Christ both within St. John's and the larger community.

·         Objective:

o        Identify the gifts within our surrounding community and match them with opportunities.

o        Promote and encourage the blessings of volunteerism.

o        Sensitizes the people of St. John's to the needs and opportunities for serving others around us.

o        Understand that new members bring their unique, God given, gifts.

·         Action Steps:

o        Sacrifice yourself as evidence in extending a loving and caring hand to others.

o        Sacrifice your time.

o        Sacrifice your talents.

o        Sacrifice your treasures.

o        Display a Belief Banner inside the church.

We Believe That The World Needs What We Have

·         Bible Verse: John 20:21

·         Goal:

o        To share and tell the Good News of God's never-ending, unconditional, Love.

·         Objective:

o        To live and be willing to tell the story of God's Mercy to ALL people, in All places, and for ALL times.

o        To share what we have with the world.

o        Help, comfort, and relieve the pain of Sin and Death

·         Action Steps:

o        Identify and support mission activities.

o        Utilize St. John's Prayer Chain.

o        Promote the use of our facilities for community-serving activities.

o        Educate and inform the congregation and community about the ELCA’s world wide mission activities.  

o        Support the ELCA’s world wide mission activities.
